No one will pay attention to her or give her things because she doesn't say sorry. I find children, when faced with an infraction on their part, especially one that has wounded another person, resist apologies because they seem to interpret "I'm sorry" as agreement they have done something unacceptable; something hard for some egos to accept at any age. She decides she would rather say that she is sorry and be happy, so she apologizes for all of her sad choices.Bruce Whatley really does some darling illustrations. I'm not sure what kind of creature Martha is (a kangaroo? As may be obvious, it's good for instigating conversations about the importance of saying "I'm sorry".

Martha doesn't say sorry! Martha doesn't say sorry! But, it also has some unexpected subtle humor and adorable art- and I dare say it has enough of both to overcome (for the most part) being a blatant message-bearer.
